The College of the Holy Cross football team has added R.J. Chidester to its coaching staff, as announced by head coach Tom Gilmore. He will serve as the tight ends coach for the Crusaders.
The football team from the College of the Holy Cross has been honored by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association with the Academic Progress Rate Award for the Patriot League. The APR Award recognizes one institution at each of the 13 FCS conferences that has the highest APR score, and Holy Cross was one of just eight schools to receive the award for second straight year.
Holy Cross director of athletics Nathan Pine has announced three individuals will be recognized this fall as the seventh class in the Crusader Football Legends Ring of Honor. Dr. Eddie Anderson, Dennis Golden (Class of 1963) and David Murphy (Class of 1990) will be honored in a ceremony at the game against New Hampshire on Sept. 16, and receive permanent recognition at Fitton Field.

Last November, the College of the Holy Cross Crusaders played the Fordham University Rams at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY to compete for the 31st Ram-Crusader Cup. While the premise for this event was football, it went well beyond a game. With that in mind, Holy Cross has partnered with Defend Your Head on the use of ProTech, a patented shell that is an add-on to new or existing football helmets and utilizes specialized material to reduce the risk of brain injury due to blunt force trauma. Based on ProTech's performance over the last two years, Holy Cross has recommended ProTech's use amongst its Patriot League companions as a league-wide initiative to enhance player safety.

Holy Cross will open up the year at Connecticut on Thursday, Aug. 31, with the game kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Live television coverage will be provided by SportsNet New York, as the Crusaders and the Huskies play at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Conn.
Senior wide receiver Jake Wieczorek, a member of the Holy Cross football team, has been selected as the recipient of the 2017 John C. Lawlor Medal. The Lawlor Medal is awarded to the outstanding student and athlete throughout the college course, and was presented in a special ceremony held in the Dinand Library on Thursday, May 25.

Once again this year, the College of the Holy Cross is a national leader in the academic success of its student-athletes. Holy Cross had 75 percent of its teams earn NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) public recognition awards, the highest percentage in the country ahead of Gonzaga (73.3 percent) and Dartmouth (73.1 percent).
