Holy Cross senior student-athlete Zoe Matherne was named the 2017-2018 Crusader of the Year last month. The Crusader of the Year is the most prestigious award presented to a student-athlete by the Varsity Club. It is awarded to a senior who has excelled not only in varsity athletics, but also in the classroom and community and is heavily involved in campus activities. Matherne competed in cross country and track and field all four years. She is the first female cross country and track and field athlete to receive the award since 2002.

Alumni, parents and friends of Holy Cross Athletics came together on Friday, April 6, to show the world the power of purple during the We Are Holy Cross Crusaders Giving Day. During a 24-hour period, a total of 1,999 donors made a gift to the Crusader Athletics Fund accounting for more than $237,000 in financial support for our varsity programs.

Nineteen College of the Holy Cross varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate public recognition awards from the NCAA. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. Holy Cross ranked second among all Division I athletic programs in the nation in both the total number of teams honored (19) and the percentage of programs recognized (79.2 percent).

The Holy Cross Varsity Club announced its yearly awards at its 63rd annual dinner, held on Saturday, April 28, at the Hogan Campus Center. Leading the way was senior Zoe Matherne of the women's track and field and cross country teams, who was selected as the 2017-2018 Crusader of the Year. In addition to presenting its annual student-athlete awards, the club also inducted six new members into the Hall of Fame: Liz Abbott (Class of 1989, swimming and diving), Terrence Butt (Class of 1995, baseball, ice hockey), John Connors (Class of 1961, basketball), Katie O'Keefe (Class of 2003, basketball), Steve Silva (Class of 2006, football) and Josh Trott (Class of 2007, soccer).

The official blessing, dedication and grand opening of Holy Cross' new athletic facility, the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex, will take place this Saturday, April 28. This new complex will be the cornerstone of Holy Cross' athletic success for generations to come, giving all Crusader student-athletes a world-class collegiate, competitive experience.
