Football Coaching Staff
Head Coach
Bob Chesney
Bob Chesney is in his first year as the head football coach at the College of the Holy Cross in 2018. The 28th head coach in the history of the program, he has posted a winning record in each of his eight seasons as a collegiate head coach. A two-time Northeast-10 Conference Coach of the Year, Chesney's career record stands at 67-25 (.728 winning percentage), including five seasons at Assumption College (44-16, 2013-2017) and three years at Salve Regina University (23-9, 2010-2012). He took over an Assumption program that had posted two winning seasons in the 17 years prior to his arrival and led the Greyhounds to five-straight winning records and NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last three years. Chesney previously rebuilt a Salve Regina program which had a streak of eight-consecutive losing seasons before his tenure, posting three winning campaigns in a row. During his eight seasons at the helm of the two programs, Chesney coached 94 all-conference selections and 12 All-Americans.   FULL BIO
 
Defensive Coordinator
Scott James
Scott James is in his first season on the Holy Cross football coaching staff in 2018, serving as the defensive coordinator. James joined the Crusaders after spending five seasons as the safeties coach at the University of New Hampshire from 2013-2017. During that time, he helped the Wildcats to an overall record of 46-22 with five trips to the NCAA playoffs.   FULL BIO
Offensive Coordinator
Patrick Murphy
Patrick Murphy is in his first season as the offensive coordinator at Holy Cross in 2018. Murphy has over two decades of coaching experience, and joined the Crusaders after spending the previous two seasons at Tufts University. During his time at Tufts, Murphy served as the run game coordinator in addition to coaching the running backs and slot receivers.   FULL BIO
Secondary Coach
Anthony Barese
Anthony Barese is in his first season on the Holy Cross coaching staff in 2018, serving as the secondary coach. Barese joined the Crusaders after spending the previous 10 seasons on the coaching staff at Assumption College. He served as the Greyhounds defensive coordinator from 2014-2017, helping the team to an overall record of 38-11 during that time with three trips to the NCAA playoffs.   FULL BIO
Special Teams Coordinator / Tight Ends Coach
Drew Canan
Drew Canan is in his first season on the Crusader coaching staff in 2018, serving as the tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. Canan came to Holy Cross from Assumption College, where he served as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator under Chesney from 2014-2017. He helped the Greyhounds to an overall record of 38-11 during that time, with three trips to the NCAA playoffs.   FULL BIO
Safeties Coach
Matt Colangelo
Matt Colangelo is in his first season on the Holy Cross coaching staff in 2018, serving as the safeties coach. Colangelo joined the Crusaders after spending the 2017 season as the assistant linebackers coach at Villanova University. He previously served as the assistant secondary coach at Yale in 2016, after beginning his coaching career as the linebackers coach at Assumption from 2014-2015.   FULL BIO
Pass Game Coordinator / Wide Receivers Coach
Ari Confesor
Ari Confesor is in his first season on the Crusader coaching staff in 2018, serving as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach. Confesor came to Holy Cross from the University of Rhode Island, where he has served as the wide receivers coach and co-special teams coordinator since 2014. He coached two players who earned All-Colonial Athletic Association honors in 2017.   FULL BIO

Anthony DiMichele
Anthony DiMichele is in his second season on the Holy Cross coaching staff in 2018. He will serve as the running backs coach in 2018, after being the assistant secondary coach in 2017. DiMichele joined the Crusaders after serving as the secondary coach at the University of New Haven for two years.   FULL BIO
Defensive Line Coach
Charlie Noonan
Charlie Noonan is in his fourth season on the Holy Cross coaching staff in 2018, serving as the defensive line coach. During the 2015 and 2016 campaigns, he coached defensive end Dewayne Cameron, who was named first team All-Patriot League twice and first team All-New England once. In addition, defensive end Ryan Smith led the Patriot League with 12 sacks in 2016.   FULL BIO

Chris Smith
Chris Smith is in his second season on the Crusader coaching staff in 2018, serving as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. In 2017, he helped left tackle James Murray earn second team All-Patriot League honors. Smith came to Holy Cross from the University of New Haven, where he served as the offensive line coach and run-game coordinator for three years.   FULL BIO

Brian Vaganek
Brian Vaganek is in his second season on the Crusader coaching staff in 2018, serving as the linebackers coach. During his first year at Holy Cross in 2017, he helped Nick McBeath earn All-America honors while McBeath and Ryan Brady ranked second and third in the Patriot League in tackles. Dan Letteriello
Dan Letteriello is in his first year as a volunteer with Bob Chesney's staff in 2018, handling offensive quality control. Prior to joining the Crusaders, Letteriello spent the 2017 season as the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator at Anna Maria College.
