Volleyball Drops 3-1 Match At Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – After the Crusaders dropped the first set they responded by taking the second, but the Raiders then won the next two as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Colgate, 3-1, by scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-18 in Patriot League action at Cotterell Court on Friday night. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 6-16 overall (2-4 Patriot League), while the Raiders improve to 9-11 overall (5-1 Patriot League).

Junior Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) tallied her 17th double-double of the season and the 44th of her career with 17 kills and 15 digs. Senior Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) led the team with a .444 hitting percentage as she recorded 10 kills. Colpoys and Lynch tied for the team-lead with two blocks. Colpoys now has 698 career kills which moves her to seventh all-time at the school, while her 196 career blocks are fifth. Freshman Hannah Grace Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) notched 39 assists, while freshman Alicia Swearingen (Springdale, Ark.) tied Lynch with a team-best 15 digs. Freshman Layne Hubbard (Austin, Texas) just missed double-digit kills with nine and junior Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded 12 digs as she now enters the all-time career digs list in program history with 821 which are ninth.

The Raiders were led by Kaylee Fifer who notched a double-double with 37 assists and 11 digs. Kaylee Dougherty and Lindsay Young each recorded 12 kills, while Caitlin Cremin tallied 24 digs.  

The Raiders controlled the first set as their lead was as big as nine points at 22-13. With the score 24-17, Diane Seely recorded a kill to secure the set. With the Crusaders down 23-20 in the second, they then won five straight points for the 25-23 win. Three of the five points were won on kills by Hubbard including on set point. The Raiders were then able to take the last two sets to earn the victory.

The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa., to take on Patriot League opponent Bucknell at 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 15.
