Holy Cross falls twice on day one of tournament

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Despite the efforts from the Holy Cross volleyball team and senior Caitlin Agostinacchio (Bellmore, N.Y.), who posted a double-double, 15 kills and 15 digs, the Crusaders were defeated by Brown, 1-3 in the first match and later by Central Connecticut State, 0-3, in the second.

Holy Cross was victorious over Brown in the first game, 30-23, but were unable to make the momentum continue and lost the next three games, (18-30, 18-30, 23-30), ending the match in favor of the Bears

In addition to Agostinacchio the Crusaders were led by three other seniors, including Diane Marzelli (Monument Beach, Mass.), who slapped four aces, Lauren Liesman (Winchester, Calif.) , who tallied 14 digs for the Crusaders and setter Michele Leahy (Andover, Mass.), who put up 27 assists in the match versus Brown.

The Bears had four players who recorded double-digits in kills and digs. At the top was Rikki Baldwin with 19 kills and Elvina Kung with 20 digs. Leigh Martin set a total of 55 kills.

The Crusaders were led by Agostinacchio with 11 kills and Liesman with 11 digs in game two against Central Connecticut State . Leahy posted 20 assists with Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) tallying two aces.

Jackie Jackson led the Blue Devilswith 9 kills, while Jennifer Cote and Chantelle Bowden recorded 9 digs each.

Holy Cross, who falls to 1-9 overall, will close the tournament tomorrow against host Marist at 4 p.m. The Crusaders return home to the Hart Center on Wednesday, Sept. 22 to take on Central Connecticut State at 7 p.m.
