WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Sacred Heart, 3-0, by scores of 30-20, 30-18 and 30-12, in the Crusaders' season-opener at the Hartford Invitational. With the loss, the Crusaders start off the season 0-1 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 1-0 overall.

Junior Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) led the Crusaders with 10 kills and nine digs, while senior setter Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) recorded 20 assists. Senior Valerie Mora (San Antonio, Texas) led the team with 15 digs, while sophomore Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) chipped in with 13 digs.

Sacred Heart's Justina Bell led the Pioneers with nine kills, while Morgan Gross had 21 assists. Katie Thomas had a strong defensive match as she recorded 19 digs.

The Crusaders continue play at the Hartford Invitational on Saturday when they face Providence at 11:00 a.m., while they will take on tournament host Hartford at 7:00 p.m.
