Volleyball Defeated By Army, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Army, 3-0, by scores of 30-27, 30-26 and 30-25, in Patriot League action at the Crusader Classic at the Hart Center. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights improve to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot League. Earlier, Buffalo defeated Rhode Island, 3-2, by scores of 30-24, 28-30, 20-30, 30-28 and 15-10. The Crusader Classic concludes with three matches on Saturday as Army faces Rhode Island at 11:00 p.m., Holy Cross hosts Buffalo at 2:00 p.m., and Buffalo takes on Army at 5:00 p.m.
Junior Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 kills and 14 digs, while senior setter Chrissy Fanning (East Amherst, N.Y.) also had her second double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs. Freshman Elizabeth Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) tallied nine kills as she now averages 3.20 kills per game which is second on the team behind Strawson's 4.84. Senior libero Valerie Mora (San Antonio, Texas.) and junior Katie Fitzpatrick (Queensbury, N.Y.) each added nine digs on the night.
The Black Knights were led by Elizabeth Lazzari's 16 kills and 16 digs, while Maureen Bannon dished out 41 assists. Briana Stremick had a solid match with 10 kills, while Eileen Cassidy had a strong defensive match with16 digs.
