Volleyball Splits Final Two Matches At BC/NU Challenge

BOSTON, Mass. - Senior outside hitter Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) recorded a combined 29 kills and 21 digs in two matches as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Sacred Heart, 3-0, by scores of 30-21, 30-25 and 30-17, while it fell to New Hampshire, 3-0, by scores of 30-19, 30-23 and 30-14 in the final day of competition at the Boston College/Northeastern Challenge, on Saturday afternoon on Northeastern's Solomon Court. The Crusaders are now 2-4 overall.
In the victory over Sacred Heart, Strawson registered her third double-double of the season with 17 kills and 15 digs. Junior libero Molly Anderson (Weston, Conn.) led the Crusaders with 17 digs, while freshman setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 39 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Liz Auger (Barnstable, Mass.) recorded 10 kills and senior Meagan Merinder (Andover, Mass.) was strong at the net with five total blocks.
The Pioneers were led by Christine Duffy and Annie Archer who each had eight kills.
In Holy Cross' first match of the day, Strawson led the Crusaders with 12 kills and O'Donnell had 16 assists. Sophomore Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) led Holy Cross defensively with eight digs.
The Wildcats were led by Emmy Blouin's 14 kills and Kate Uitti's 30 assists.
The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, September 5, when they travel to New Britain, Conn., to face Central Connecticut.
