DURHAM, N.H. – Senior captain Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) became the sixth Crusader in program history to record over 1,000 career digs as she led the team with 15 and now has 1,013 as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to William & Mary, 3-0, at the Holly Young Invitational at Lundholm Gymnasium on Saturday morning by scores of 25-9, 25-21 and 26-24. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-8 overall, while the Tribe improve to 4-5 overall. The Crusaders continue play in the tournament on Saturday when they meet Central Connecticut at 4:30 p.m.

Sophomore Alicia Swearingen (Springdale, Ark.) led the team with 12 kills, while sophomores Heather Roberts (San Jose, Calif.) and Dana Weston (Canton, Mass.) each tallied six kills. The six kills were a career best for Weston. Junior Christiana Blakeslee (Ashtabula, Ohio) posted 18 assists. Sophomore Hannah Grace Stokes (Atlanta, Ga.) tallied 11 digs, while Swearingen and sophomore Mary-Kate Short (Lighthouse Point, Fla.) each had two blocks.   

The Tribe were led by Paulette Grand Pre, Carolyn Albright and Shaylin O'Connell who each recorded nine kills. Molly Krull led the Tribe with 21 assists. Grand Pre also led the team with 14 digs.

The Tribe won the first set by a score of 25-9 as the team posted a .400 hitting percentage and were led by Grand Pre who posted five kills. Watters, who entered the match with 998 career digs, tallied four in the set to go over 1,000 career digs. With the second set tied at 16-16, the Tribe then won nine of last 14 points for the 25-21 win. With the third set tied at 23-23, the Crusaders took a one-point lead on a kill by Swearingen to give Holy Cross a set point at 24-23. But the Tribe then won three straight points for the 26-24 victory to take the match in three sets. Albright and O'Connell each posted five kills as Albright tallied a .714 hitting percentage and recorded a kill on match point. Swearingen led the Crusaders with seven kills for the set.
