Holy Cross Volleyball Defeated By Harvard, 3-1
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) recorded 22 kills with a .375 hitting percentage and senior Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) posted her seventh career double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Harvard, 3-1, on Tuesday night at the Malkin Athletic Center, by scores of 25-19, 25-27, 27-25 and 25-15. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-12 overall, while the Crimson improve to 4-7 on the season.
Lynch has now recorded double-digit kills seven times this season. Junior libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) led the team defensively with 19 digs, while junior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) posted 39 assists. Chisholm has tallied double-digit digs eight times this season.
Harvard had four players with double-digit kills as Mikaelle Comrie had 17 kills, Taylor Docter had 13, Sandra Lynne Fryhofer had 12 and Anne Carroll Ingersoll had 11. Christine Wu had 21 digs and Lily Durwood had 49 assists.
After Harvard won the first set by a score of 25-19, the Crusaders responded by winning the second set, 27-25. Holy Cross trailed by as many as seven points during the second set at 11-4 and with the Crimson leading 24-22, the Crusaders denied Harvard the set by winning the next two points to make the score 24-24. With the set tied at 25-25, Holy Cross won two straight points including the final point of the set on a kill by Surface. With the third set also tied at 25-25, Harvard was able to secure the victory by taking the next two points for the 27-25 win. Harvard won the fourth set, 25-15 to win the match.
The Crusaders return to action when they start the Patriot League season at Colgate on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m. and at Bucknell on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 5:00 p.m.
