Volleyball Suffers Narrow Loss To Stony Brook, 3-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Freshman Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) recorded 23 kills and 19 digs, but the Holy Cross volleyball team narrowly lost to Stony Brook, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center on the second day of the Brown Invitational by scores of 21-25, 25-15, 27-29, 25-17 and 15-11. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-10 overall, while the Seawolves improve to 7-8 on the season. The Crusaders will conclude play at the tournament when they meet Brown for the second time at 4:00 p.m. On Friday night, the Bears defeated Holy Cross, 3-2.

The 23 kills by Lynch were the most by any Crusader this season, while her double-double was her third straight and fourth of the season. She has also now recorded double-digit kills six times this season and double-digit digs five times. Junior Rebecca DeSanti (Hampden, Mass.) tallied a career-best 15 kills, while junior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 48 assists and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season and the 16th of her career. Her 48 assists was a season-best. Junior libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) recorded 18 digs for her sixth double-digit digs match of the season.

The Seawolves were led by Ashley Headen who had 21 kills, while Harmonie Calinda had 20 kills and 16 digs, and Corinne Perry tallied 54 assists. Jeanette Gibbs had 24 digs.

With the first set tied at 19-19, the Crusaders won six of the next eight points, including the last three points to win the set 25-21. After the Seawolves took the second set by a score of 25-15, Holy Cross bounced back to win the third set, 29-27. The Seawolves then won the next two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-11 to win the match.
