Volleyball Falls Just Short At Quinnipiac, 3-2

HAMDEN, Conn. - Freshman Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) posted her fifth double-double of the season with 21 kills and 17 digs, but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell at Quinnipiac, 3-2, on Tuesday night at Burt Kahn Court by scores of 25-22, 25-14, 11-25, 18-25 and 15-9. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 2-18 overall, while the Bobcats improve to 3-18. Holy Cross had three players with double-digit kills and five players with double-digit digs

Lynch has now recorded double-digit kills 12 times, including four matches with 20 kills or more. Junior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season and the 17th of her career with 44 assists and 12 digs, while senior Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) posted her second double-double of the season and the eighth of her career with 10 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) also had a strong match with a career-best 14 kills. Junior libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) tallied 18 digs as she has posted double-digit digs 13 times this season, while freshman Elizabeth Watters (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded 12 digs.

Quinnipiac was led by Kelby Carey who posted a double-double with 14 kills and 17 digs. Alyssa Naylor also had 14 kills, while Kayla Lawler tallied 39 assists. Logan Riker had 15 digs.

After dropping the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-14, the Crusaders bounced back to win the next two sets to force a fifth and deciding set. With Holy Cross leading the third set 11-7, the Crusaders won 14 of the next 18 points for the 25-11 victory. Holy Cross earned the last three points of the fourth set to win 25-18, but with the fifth set tied at 7-7 Quinnipiac won six straight points to move out to a 13-7 lead and then took two of the next four points for the 15-9 victory.

The Crusaders return to action when they play two Patriot League matches at the Holy Cross Field House with Navy on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 p.m. and American on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 4:00 p.m.
