Volleyball Drops Match To Lehigh, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) recorded 16 kills and 12 digs, while senior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied 30 assists and 14 digs, but the Mountain Hawks had three players with double-doubles as the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Lehigh, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Holy Cross Field House by scores of 25-21, 25-13, 19-25 and 25-20, in Patriot League action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 7-12 overall (1-1 Patriot League), while the Mountain Hawks improve to 7-7 overall (1-1 Patriot League).

Lynch posted her 12th double-double of the season and the 19th of her career, while O'Donnell recorded her seventh double-double of the season and the 26th of her career. O'Donnell also added six kills with a team-best .375 hitting percentage as she had no errors on 16 attempts. O'Donnell, who has 601 assists this season, is now 21 assists away from 3,000 for her career as she has 2,979 career assists. She also recorded her 100th career ace during the match. Senior libero Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) led the Crusaders with 15 digs, while junior Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) tallied eight kills.

Lehigh was led by Angelika Kopacz, who recorded 17 kills and 13 digs, while Jessica Kudirka tallied 26 assists and 13 digs. Courtney McCutchan posted 11 kills and 11 digs, while Rachel Charles recorded 22 digs. Taylor Poole was strong at the net with five total blocks.

After dropping the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-13, the Crusaders bounced back with a 25-19 win in the third frame. Holy Cross built a 14-7 lead, but the Mountain Hawks were able to cut the lead two points at 20-18. But the Crusaders then won five of the next six points to earn the victory. Lynch had an outstanding eight kills in the third set. Holy Cross was then unable to force a fifth set as Lehigh won the fourth by a 25-20 score. The Mountain Hawks recorded an overall .245 hitting percentage in the match victory.

The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Annapolis, Md., to play Patriot League opponent Navy on Friday, Oct. 1, at 7:00 p.m., while on Saturday, Oct. 2, Holy Cross will play American in Washington, D.C., at 2:00 p.m.
