WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Alex Aycock (Jonesboro, Ark.) recorded her first collegiate double-double with 11 kills and a season-best 13 digs as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Central Connecticut, 3-0, on Wednesday evening at the Holy Cross Field House by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 6-11 overall, while CCSU falls to 2-9 overall. The six total victories are already the most for Holy Cross since it went 7-19 in 2005. This is also the Crusaders' first win over Central Connecticut since a 3-2 victory on Sept. 5, 2001, as CCSU had won nine straight over the Crusaders entering tonight's match.

Aycock also had a strong .348 hitting percentage as she only had three errors in 23 attempts. Sophomore Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) tallied her 10th double-double of the season and the 17th of her career with 12 kills and 10 digs, while junior Kathleen Colpoys (Scituate, Mass.) led the team with a .471 hitting percentage as she recorded eight kills on 17 attempts with no errors. Senior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 35 assists, five kills and a .357 hitting percentage as she had no errors in 14 attempts, while sophomore Liz Ashton (Milford, Mass.) added six kills. Senior Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) led the Crusaders with 16 digs.

Central Connecticut was led by Caity Van Camp who recorded eight kills and Amanda Bayer who tallied a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs. Blaike King and Kaitlin Petrella each had 12 digs.

Holy Cross moved out to an 8-2 lead in the first set, but CCSU was able to cut the lead to one at 13-12. With the score now at 14-13, the Crusaders won 11 of the next 15 points for the 25-17 victory. Aycock and Lynch each had five kills in the opening set, while Chisholm recorded seven digs. The Crusaders built up a seven-point lead at 19-12 in the second set and were able to win by four points with a 25-21 victory. Aycock led Holy Cross with four kills in the set. With the Crusaders leading at 20-18 in the third set, they took the next five points to earn the 25-18 win to secure the match. Lynch led the Crusaders with five kills in the match clinching set.

The Crusaders return to action when they start the Patriot League season with two conference matches at the Holy Cross Field House. On Friday, Sept. 24, the Crusaders will take on Lafayette at 7:00 p.m., and then play Lehigh on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 2:00 p.m.
