Crusaders To Hold Dig Pink Event On October 16

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Alex Aycock (Jonesboro, Ark.) tallied a career-best 14 kills, while sophomore Megan Lynch (Mendham, N.J.) recorded her 15th double-double of the season and the 22nd of her career with 12 kills and 12 digs as the Holy Cross volleyball team defeated Quinnipiac, 3-0, on Wednesday evening at the Holy Cross Field House by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-19, in non-conference action. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 10-14 overall and are 7-3 at home this season, while the Bobcats fall to 4-15 overall. The Crusaders defeated Quinnipiac earlier this season by a 3-0 score. This is the first time that Holy Cross has won 10 matches in a season since going 11-14 in 2001.

Aycock also had an outstanding .565 hitting percentage as she only had one error on 23 attempts. Lynch's 312 kills this season are seventh all-time at Holy Cross for a single season. Senior setter Chelsey O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded 35 assists as she now has 3,137 career assists. Michelle Leahy (2001-2004) holds the all-time Holy Cross record with 3,177 career assists. Her 759 assists this year are ninth all-time at Holy Cross for a single season. Senior Angela Chisholm (Millis, Mass.) led the Crusaders with 14 digs. Freshman Christiana Blakeslee (Ashtabula, Ohio) recorded a career-best six kills as she had a .353 hitting percentage.

Quinnipiac was led by Olivia Grattan and Kelby Carey who each had nine kills. Kayla Lawler tallied 31 assists and Logan Riker recorded 14 digs.

With the first set tied at 17-17, the Crusaders won eight of the next nine points to earn the 25-18 win. Aycock and Lynch each had four kills, while O'Donnell tallied 13 assists. With Holy Cross trailing 22-20 in the second set, the Crusaders took five of six points to secure the 25-23 victory. Aycock led Holy Cross with five kills in the set. With the third set tied at 19-19, Holy Cross earned six straight points including two consecutive kills by Blakeslee to give the Crusaders a 25-19 set victory and to earn their 10th match win of the season.  

The Crusaders will play two Patriot League matches at the Holy Cross Field House. The Crusaders will take on Colgate on Friday, Oct. 15, at 7:00 p.m., while Holy Cross will play Bucknell on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Holy Cross volleyball team will hold a "Dig Pink" day.
