Holy Cross Women's Lacrosse Falls To American, 17-10

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to American, 17-10, on Sunday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field in Patriot League action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 4-10 overall (2-4 Patriot League), while the Eagles improve to 6-9 overall (4-1 Patriot League). Freshman Meg O'Leary (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored a career best four goals to lead the Crusaders as she also added one assist for a career best five points.
Senior Kelly Winslow (Norfolk, Mass.) scored two goals, while seniors Amy Archambault (West Hartford, Conn.), Nikki Bolduc (Stratham, N.H.), Kristine Corkum (Ipswich, Mass.) and sophomore Katie Gardner (Garden City, N.Y.) each scored one goal. Archambault also had two assists for three points, while Bolduc, Gardner and freshman Annie Boylan (Andover, Mass.) each had one assist.
American was led by Lauren Lane's five goals.
After American took an early 1-0 lead, Winslow tied the game with 18:59 left in the first half. The Eagles then scored seven straight goals to take an 8-1 lead into half time.
The Crusaders made it an 8-5 game when they scored four goals to start off the second half with three straight by O'Leary and one from Winslow. The Eagles stopped the scoring streak with a goal of their own to increase their lead to 9-5, but Archambault and O'Leary scored to make it a 9-7 game. The two teams traded goals with Corkum scoring for Holy Cross as American's lead was 10-8 with 16:15 remaining in the second half. The Eagles then scored five straight goals to move out to a 15-8 advantage. After Bolduc scored, American scored two more times. Gardner scored the last goal of the game with 46 seconds left for the 17-10 final score.
Holy Cross freshman goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) made seven saves, while Kristine Vida made five saves for American.
The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, April 16, when they meet Sacred Heart at the Hart Turf Field for Senior Night at 7:00 p.m.
