Women's Lacrosse Falls To Lehigh, 14-7

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Megan Kelly recorded four goals and one assist for five points for the Mountain Hawks as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team fell to Lehigh, 14-7, on Saturday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex in Patriot League action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 4-9 overall (1-3 Patriot League), while the Mountain Hawks improve to 10-3 overall (3-1 Patriot League).  

Senior Katie Gardner (Garden City, N.Y.) led the Crusaders with three goals and two assists for five points. She has recorded at least one point in 16 straight overall games and has posted nine goals and five assists for 14 points over the last three games. Sophomore Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) extended her goal scoring streak to 25 straight games as she netted two goals. Freshman Taylor Zebrowski (Verona, N.J.) posted one goal and one assist, while senior Ali Baird (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored one goal and senior Megan Fenton (Bridgewater, N.J.) had two assists. Sophomore Catherine Furman (Garden City, N.Y.) led all players with four ground balls, while junior Annie Boylan (Andover, Mass.) led Holy Cross with two draw controls.

Allison Thomas also had a strong game for Lehigh with three goals and one assist for four points, while Lauren Dykstra posted three goals and Lauren Murray had two goals and one assist.

After Murray scored the first goal of the game to give the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead, Gardner scored twice in a row with a goal on a free-position shot and a goal off an assist by Fenton, while Zebrowski then scored to give the Crusaders a 3-1 advantage. After Dykstra cut the lead to 3-2, Baird posted a goal off a pass from Zebrowski to increase the lead to 4-2 with 18:17 left in the first half. But Lehigh then scored the last six goals of the half to take an 8-4 lead.

The Mountains scored the first two goals of the second half making it eight total straight goals to increase their lead to 10-4. Sutton then netted two consecutive goals with both being assisted by Gardner to make it a 10-6 contest. With the score now 11-6, Gardner scored her third goal of the game to cut the lead to 11-7 with 8:55 to go. Fenton had an assist on the goal. But that is as close as the Crusaders would get, as Lehigh scored the last three goals of the game for the 14-7 victory.

Junior goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) made nine saves, while MaryLeah DiNisco stopped nine shots for Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks outshot the Crusaders, 32-18. The Mountain Hawks picked up 16 ground balls and the Crusaders earned 11, while Lehigh secured 16 draw controls and Holy Cross had seven.

The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Cambridge, Mass., on Wednesday, April 14, to play Harvard at Harvard Stadium at 7:00 p.m., in their last regular season road contest of the season.
