Women's Lacrosse Falls To Colgate By A 12-8 Score
WORCESTER, Mass. – With the game tied at 7-7 with 24:54 left in the second half, the Raiders scored five of the last six goals of the contest as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Colgate, 12-8, on Saturday afternoon at Holy Cross Field in Patriot League action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 3-8 overall (0-2 Patriot League), while the Raiders improve to 5-4 overall (3-0 Patriot League).
Sophomore Maddie Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.) led the Crusaders with three goals, while junior Kayla DiBari (Holderness, N.H.) netted two goals. Junior Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) recorded one goal and one assist for two points as she extended her goal scoring streak to 40 straight games. Senior Annie Boylan (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Taylor Zebrowski (Verona, N.J.) each found the back of the net once.
The Raiders were led by Colleen Bubnack who recorded three goals and three assists for six points, while Monica White scored three goals. Kate Bergstrom netted two goals.
After the Raiders took an early 1-0 lead, Sutton tied the game with 26:15 left in the first half. With the Crusaders now trailing by a 2-1 score, Zebrowski, Boylan and Carrellas each found the back of the net to give Holy Cross a 4-2 advantage. Boylan's goal was on a free-position shot. But the Raiders then netted three straight goals. After Carrellas tied the contest at 5-5, Bubnack scored as the Raiders brought a 6-5 lead to the half.
After the Raiders netted the first goal of the second half, Carrellas scored on a free-position shot and DiBari found the back of the net off a pass by Sutton to tie the game at 7-7. But the Raiders then scored five straight goals as DiBari netted a goal with 10 seconds left for the 12-8 final.
Senior goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) made eight saves, while Christina Roa made 10 saves to earn the victory as she made seven in the second half. The Raiders outshot the Crusaders, 24-22, while Holy Cross earned 17 ground balls and the Raiders recorded 16. The Raiders secured 11 draw controls and the Crusaders recorded 10.
The Crusaders return to action when they play at Vermont on Wednesday, March 30 at 3:00 p.m. Holy Cross will continue the Patriot League season with a home game on Saturday, April 2 versus Navy at noon.
