Women's Lacrosse Falls To Brown, 13-6
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Meg O'Leary (Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied four goals and one assist for five points but the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Brown, 13-6, at Berylson Family Fields on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-7 overall, while the Bears improve to 4-2 overall.
Junior Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored two goals as she extended her goal scoring streak to 37 straight games. She also led the team with five draw controls.
The Bears were led by Paris Waterman who recorded three goals and one assist for four points. Julia Keller also tallied two goals and one assist for three points, while Bre Hudgins and Kaela McGilloway each scored two goals.
After O'Leary gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead with 23:13 left in the first half, the Bears recorded four straight goals to take a 4-1 advantage to the second half.
Brown then netted the first three goals of the second half to increase its lead to 7-1. After Sutton found the back of the net off a pass from O'Leary, the Bears tallied three consecutive goals to make it a 10-2 game. O'Leary scored on a free-position shot with 13:29 remaining. After Alexa Caldwell scored for Brown, Sutton netted a goal on a free-position shot. The Bears then made it a 13-4 contest with two goals. The Crusaders scored the last two goals of the game as O'Leary found the back of the net on a free-position shot and then recorded her fourth goal of the game with 59 seconds left.
Senior goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) made four saves and allowed 11 goals, while freshman Sarah Weber (Summit, N.J.) allowed two goals. Isabel Harvey made eight saves and allowed four goals to earn the victory, while Maggie Suprey allowed two goals and made one save. The Crusaders outshot the Bears, 27-23, while Brown recorded 17 ground balls and Holy Cross tallied 15. Each team went 3-4 on free-position shots. The Crusaders secured 13 draw controls and the Bears recorded eight.
The Crusaders return to action when they play at Sacred Heart on Saturday, March 19, at 3:00 p.m.
