Women's Lacrosse Falls To UConn, 11-7
CLERMONT, Fla. – Sophomore Taylor Zebrowski (Verona, N.J.) scored three goals and junior Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y) recorded two goals and one assist for three points, but the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to UConn, 11-7, on Wednesday at the National Training Center in non-conference action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 1-5 overall, while the Huskies improve to 4-1 overall.
UConn was led by M.E. Lapham who scored three goals. Kacey Pippitt, Mackenzie Rainone and Lauren Sparks each tallied two goals.
Carrellas gave the Crusaders an early 1-0 lead when she scored on a free-position shot with 26:59 left in the first half. The Huskies then netted five straight goals for the 5-1 advantage. After Sutton found the back of the net, the Huskies scored the last goal of the first half with 1:42 remaining to make it a 6-2 game.
UConn extended its lead to 9-2 as it scored the first three goals of the second half. Zebrowski and Sutton then recorded goals to cut the UConn lead to 9-4. After the Huskies made it a 10-4 contest, the Crusaders scored three straight with two by Zebrowski and one by Shea off a pass by Sutton to make it a 10-7 game. UConn then scored a late goal for the 11-7 final.
Senior goalie Amy Martin (Bloomfield, Mich.) made seven saves, while Brittney Testa made 12 saves to earn the victory.
