Volleyball Falls To Stony Brook, 3-1

  • The Lead: Junior Mandy Sifferlen (Sudbury, Mass.) registered a double-double as the Crusaders fell to Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon at the Fairfield Invitational by scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 and 30-28. Sophomore Mary Mullen (Mendota Heights, Minn.) was named to the All-Tournament team as she posted 17 kills and 11 blocks over the three matches.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Sifferlen recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore M.C. Magner (Northfield, Ill.) led Holy Cross with 20 digs, while junior Katie McKernan (Sylvania, Ohio) led the team with 33 assists. Mullen led the team with five blocks.
  • Kathy Fletcher led the Seawolves with 20 kills, while Lo Hathaway notched a team-laeding 21 digs and Morgan Kath led the team with 34 assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Sifferlen’s double-double was her third of the season, and the 13th of her career.
  • This is Mullen's second career All-Tournament team selection as she also earned the honor at the 2014 Temple Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Magner registered nine digs as the Crusaders dropped the first set to the Seawolves, 25-19.
  • Holy Cross responded in the second set, grabbing the lead early and holding on for a 25-23 win.
  • The Seawolves stifled the Crusaders with an 8-1 run in the third set that would help lead them to a 25-19 win.
  • The Crusaders nearly forced a fifth set by taking the Seawolves into extra points, but came up just short by a score of 30-28 in the fourth.

UP NEXT

  • The Crusaders will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11, when they will take on Quinnipiac at the UMass Lowell Invitational at 4:00 p.m.
