• The Lead: The Crusader women finished in 7th place while the men took 12th at the National Catholic Invitational on Friday afternoon in Notre Dame, Ind.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Junior Mary Welsh (Manhasset, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the women, crossing the finish line 21st overall with a time of 18:21. Other top finishers for the women were sophomore Hannah Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn.), who finished 34th overall with a time of 18:37, junior Rachel Sowinski (Mountain Top, Pa.), who finished 40th with a time of 18:45 and sophomore Anne Sullivan (Southborough, Mass.) who finished 93rd with a time of 19:22.
• Freshman Joseph Prunty (New York, N.Y.) led the men's team, finishing 67th with a time of 26:31. Other top performers for the men included junior John Bentivegna (Staten Island, N.Y.), who finished 83rd with a time of 26:48 and senior Dennis Muldoon (Weymouth, Mass.) who finished 106th with a time of 27:07.
• Chad Maloy of Canisius finished first overall for the men's race, while Anna Rohrer of Notre Dame claimed the top prize in the women's race.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:

• The women's race featured a total of 299 runners from 37 schools.
• Welsh was the top finisher for the women for the second race in a row.
• The men's race featured 276 runners from 36 schools.

• Select runners from the cross country teams will run tomorrow, Sept. 19, at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational beginning at 10:30 a.m.
