The Lead: Junior Mandy Sifferlen (Sudbury, Mass.) posted 18 kills, but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Brown, 3-0, by scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 25-22, on Friday night at the Central Connecticut Invitational.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Freshman Caroline Wells (Greensboro, N.C.) led the team with 17 assists, while sophomore M.C. Magner (Northfield, Ill.) led the Crusaders with 11 digs. Sophomore Mary Mullen (Mendota Heights, Minn.) tallied six blocks. Freshman Lynsey Petersen (Palos Verdes, Calif.) posted double-digit digs with 10.
  • Sabrina Stillwell led the Bears with 11 kills and Emma Thygesen totaled 10 kills. Rachele Killian posted 19 assists and Shannon Frost tallied 14 digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Sifferlen has posted double-digit kills this season in nine of the 10 matches so far. She entered the match leading the Patriot League with 3.43 kills per set. Tonight she averaged an outstanding 6.00 kills per set as she is now averaging 3.63 kills per set for the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • With the Crusaders trailing 24-21 in the first set, they won the next three points to tie the set at 24-24. But the Bears then took two straight points to win the first set by a score of 26-24.
  • With Brown leading the second set 21-18, the Bears then won four of the next six points to secure a 25-20 victory.
  • The Bears clinched the match by winning the third set, 25-22. With Brown leading 22-20, the Bears won three of the last five points for the victory.

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders continue play at the tournament on Saturday, Sept.19, when they take on Hartford (11:00 a.m.) and Central Connecticut (6:30 p.m.).
