Volleyball Defeated By Bucknell In Season-Finale

The Lead: Junior Mandy Sifferlen (Sudbury, Mass.) posted a double-double, but the Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Bucknell, 3-0, by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-19 on Saturday afternoon, in the season-finale for both teams. Sifferlen also is only the second player in program history to record over 400 kills or more in a season as she posted 410 this year.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Sifferlen tallied the double-double with 11 kills and 19 digs. Junior Natalie Welsch (Eden Prairie, Minn.) totaled 10 kills, while senior Emily Oliver (Carlsbad, Calif.) posted eight kills.
  • Junior Katie McKernan (Sylvania, Ohio) posted 18 assists, while sophomore M.C. Magner (Northfield, Ill.) totaled 15 digs
  • Meghan Wentzel tallied a double-double with 29 assists and 12 digs. Karen Campbell led the Bison with nine kills and Jordan Walker posted 15 digs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Sifferlen concluded the season with 410 kills, which are the second most in program history. She is only the second Crusader to record 400 kills or more in a season. Megan Lynch did it twice as she tallied 442 in 2010 to set the school record and she had 405 in 2011.
  • Sifferlen’s 3.83 kills per set led the Patriot League this season and are sixth all-time in program history.
  • Sifferlen’s double-double was her 10th this season and the 20th of her career.
  • Sophomore Mary Mullen (Mendota Heights, Minn.) totaled 96 blocks this season, which are fifth-best in school history. Her 0.96 blocks per set are fourth all-time in school history.
  • Magner had 409 digs this season which are sixth all-time in program history. Her 4.22 digs per set are fourth all-time.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • With the Bison leading 21-20 in the first set, they then won four of the next five points to earn the 25-21 win.
  • Bucknell won the second set by a 25-16 score as it took five of the last six points.
  • The Bison clinched the match by winning the third set, 25-19.
