Women's Lacrosse Defeated By #9 Boston College

The Lead: Tess Chandler scored four goals and had one assist for the Eagles as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team fell to No. 9 Boston College, 19-6, in the Crusaders’ home-opener on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Crusaders opened up the game with the first goal by senior Kaitlin Concilio (Ridgewood, N.J.) off a free position shot.
  • The Eagles then scored the next 10 goals of the game, led by Sam Apuzzo and Chandler, both with three goals for BC. The score was 10-1 Eagles, with 9:37 left in the first half.
  • The Crusaders followed with two goals, one by junior Tess MacKay (Simsbury, Conn.), assisted by Concilio and one by junior Maddie Ward (Norwell, Mass.), unassisted with one minute left in the half.
  • With 13 seconds left in the first half, Kate Rich scored for the Eagles, making the score 11-3 going into the second half.O’Neill assisted by Chandler. The Crusaders answered back with two goals, one by Concilio and another by MacKay assisted by sophomore Stephanie Ford (Summit, N.J.) with 20:45 left in regulation.
  • The Eagles then scored seven unanswered goals making the score 19-5 with 2:50 left in the game.
  • Concilio had the last goal when she dodged around her defender and placed the ball in the back of the net with 22 seconds left on the clock.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • BC outshot Holy Cross, 37-13.
  • Sophomore goaltender Julia Maloney (Loudonville, N.Y.) made seven saves to Zoe Ochoa’s four.
  • The Eagles had 22 draw controls to the Crusaders’ four and had 11 ground balls to the Crusaders’ seven.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Concilio had her fourth career hat-trick.
  • Concilio is just four points away from tallying 100 career points. She has 47 goals and 49 assists for the Crusaders.
  • Freshman Baker Earl (Ridgewood, N.J.) played in her first collegiate game and tallied three draw controls for the Crusaders. Freshman Julia Insani (Northborough, Mass.) also made her collegiate debut.
