(Felsberg Field) The Lead: The Crusaders suffered a 7-0 setback to Delaware in their final game of the FIU Panther Invitational on Sunday morning in Miami, Fla.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Freshman Jaclyn Brewster (Bridgeport, Conn.) began the game with a lead-off triple down the right field line, but the Crusaders were unable to bring in the run.
The Crusaders defense had a strong start in the opening innings, allowing just ten at bats in the first three innings and holding the Blue Hens to just three hits in the first four frames.
Delaware would jump out to a commanding lead after grabbing six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Blue Hens would add another run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-0 in their favor.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Delaware outhit the Crusaders 9-2 in seven innings of play.
The Blue Hens left three runners on base, while Holy Cross left two.
Delaware starter Kiersten Coffman earned the win after pitching five innings while allowing no runs on one hit and dealing eight strikeouts. Jordan Cargile pitched two innings in relief, allowing no runs with one hit.
Senior Gennifer Durham (Abbeville, S.C.) took the loss after pitching 4.1 innings while allowing five runs on seven hits. Sophomore Amanda Gonzalez (West Roxbury, Mass.) pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing two runs on two hits.
Brewster was 1-for-3 on the day with a triple, while sophomore Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.) was also 1-for-3 with a single.
The Crusaders' will return to action at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. with competition beginning on Mar. 6 against Creighton at 1:30 p.m.
