Women’s Lacrosse Defeated By Lehigh

The Lead: Allison LaBeau posted three goals and four assists for seven points for the Mountain Hawks as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team fell to Lehigh, 12-7, in the Patriot League season-opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior captain MacKenzie Bozel (Hunt Valley, Md.) gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead when she found the back of the net off a pass by senior Kaitlin Concilio (Ridgewood, N.J.). The Mountain Hawks then scored four straight goals to move out to a 4-1 advantage with 22:23 left in the first half.
  • After Concilio ended Lehigh’s scoring streak, the Mountain Hawks netted two straight goals for a 6-2 lead. But Concilio then made the score 6-3 with her second goal of the game. Junior Maddie Ward (Norwell, Mass.) tallied an assist on the goal.
  • With the score now 7-3 after a Lehigh goal by Julianne D’Orazio, sophomore Stephanie Ford (Summit, N.J.) found the back of the net on a free-position shot. Lauren Beausoleil then scored on a free-position shot with 34 seconds left, but Ward tallied a goal off a pass by Concilio with just 10 seconds remaining as the Crusaders trailed 8-5 going to the half.
  • After Beausoleil scored the first goal of the second half, senior captain Margie Smith (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and freshman Alexis Leighton (Garden City, N.Y.) each netted a goal to cut the Lehigh lead to 9-7 with 10:50 left.
  • But the Mountain Hawks then posted the last three goals of the contest for the 12-7 final score.    

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Lehigh outshot Holy Cross, 23-18.
  • Sophomore goalie Julia Maloney (Loudonville, N.Y.) made four saves, while Taylor Tvedt posted seven saves.
  • The Mountain Hawks secured 16 draw controls to the Crusaders’ five.
  • Holy Cross tallied 21 ground balls, while Lehigh had 15.
  • The Crusaders went 1-2 on free-position shots, while the Mountain Hawks went 3-6. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Concilio has at least one point in 14 straight games.

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders will return to action when they host Harvard on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:05 p.m.
