Women's Lacrosse Falls To Harvard

The Lead: Marisa Romeo posted three goals and three assists for six points for the Crimson as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team fell to Harvard, 13-3, on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Crimson opened the contest with a 6-0 scoring run to take a 6-0 lead with 10:23 left in the first half.
  • Junior Tess MacKay (Simsbury, Conn.) ended the Crimson scoring streak with a goal at 9:55 of the first.
  • Harvard tallied four straight goals in the next nine minutes to make it 10-1 at the half.
  • The Crimson opened the second half with three straight goals, making it 13-1 with 25:31 remaining in the second half.
  • The Crusaders tallied two straight goals to end the Crimson scoring run as junior Maddie Ward (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Baker Earl (Ridgewood, N.J.) found the back of the net to cut the Crimson lead to 13-3 with 14:20 remaining in regulation.
  • The Crusaders were unable to score in the final 14 minutes as Harvard tallied the 13-3 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross outshot Harvard, 28-22.
  • Sophomore goalie Julia Maloney (Loudonville, N.Y.) made five saves, while Kelly Weis posted 15 saves for the Crimson, for an .833 save percentage.
  • The Crimson secured 11 draw controls to the Crusaders’ seven.
  • Holy Cross tallied 16 ground balls, while Harvard had 22.
  • The Crusaders went 1-3 on free-position shots, while the Crimson went 0-3. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Earl’s goal was the first of her collegiate career.

  • The Crusaders will return to action when they host Navy on Saturday, March 26 at 2:05 p.m.
