Softball Falls Twice In Doubleheader At Siena

Location: Loudonville, N.Y. (Siena Field)
The Lead: Freshman Taylor Wahler (Inman, S.C.) went 3-for-3 at the plate as the Crusaders came up short to Siena in their first contest of the day.


  • Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, as sophomore Taylor Moss (Hoawrd Beach, N.Y.) brought home senior Hailey Mullen (Plainville, Mass.) with a sacrifice fly to center field.
  • Moss drove in another run with an RBI single in the third inning to score Wahler and make it 2-0 Holy Cross.
  • The Crusaders extended their lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning. Sophomore Gabby Muniz (Rockport, Mass.) reached home on an error to start the scoring, while Moss picked up another RBI with a ground out to shortstop that brought home Mullen and sophomore Mandy McCarthy (Pearl River, N.Y.) brought home Wahler with RBI single to left field.
  • Siena answered with a strong offensive showing in the bottom of the inning, bringing in six runs on six hits to take its first lead of the game.
  • The Saints capped off their offense with another pair of runs on two hits in the sixth inning.


  • Siena outhit the Crusaders 10-7.
  • Both teams left seven runners on base in the game.
  • Sophomore Amanda Gonzalez (West Roxbury, Mass.) took the loss after pitching 1.2 innings in relief, allowing three runs on three hits, while classmate Katy Watson (Bexley, Ohio) pitched the first 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits.
  • Antonia Edwards got the win for Siena, pitching 3.0 innings while allowing one run on four hits, as Lauren Butts pitched the first 4.0 innings and allowed four runs on three hits.
  • Wahler was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while Moss went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Moss led the Crusaders with six putouts, while senior Kelsey Christensen (Hastings, Neb.) registered five.

Time: 4:00 p.m.
Location: Loudonville, N.Y. (Siena Field)
The Lead: Holy Cross fell to Siena in the second game of Thursday afternoon’s doubleheader by a score of 5-2 in Loudonville, N.Y.


  • The Crusaders got out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. After Mullen reached on an error and Wahler advanced her with a sacrifice bunt, junior Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.) drove in the run with a single to left field.
  • In the top of the second, Holy Cross would make it 2-0 in their favor with an RBI infield single from Muniz to bring home junior Kylee Malouf (Simi Valley, Calif.) from third base.
  • Siena found its offensive stride in the bottom of the fourth, as they took over the lead after bringing in five runs on six hits.
  • The Crusaders did not allow any more hits in the remaining two innings of play, but could not overcome the deficit created by the Saints.


  • Siena outhit the Crusaders 9-4.
  • The Saints left six runners on base, while Holy Cross left four.
  • Senior Gennifer Durham (Abbeville, S.C) pitched a full six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits.
  • Danielle Cacciola picked up the win for Siena, pitching 4.0 innings in relief while allowing no runs on one hit, as Butts pitched the first three innings and allowed two runs on three hits.
  • Muniz led the Crusaders with four putouts.


  • The Crusaders are scheduled to begin Patriot League play this weekend, as they travel to Bucknell for three games, beginning with a double header at noon on Saturday, Mar. 26.
