The Lead: Freshman Jaclyn Brewster (Bridgeport, Conn.) drove in a pair of runs in the second inning to help lead Holy Cross to a 4-1 victory over Lafayette on Friday afternoon in Easton, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI on an infield single.
  • The Crusaders bounced back with three runs in the second inning. After sophomore Gabby Muniz (Rockport, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and advanced to third during a pick-off play on junior Emily Krisanda (Oak Hill, Va.), senior Kelsey Christensen (Hastings, Neb.) drove in the run with an RBI single through the left side. After senior Hailey Mullen (Plainville, Mass.) singled to left field and advanced Christensen to second, Brewster picked up two RBIs with a double to left center.
  • Holy Cross added one more run in the sixth inning, as Krisanda stole third base and scored off a throwing error from the catcher.
  • After allowing a run in the first inning, senior pitcher Gennifer Durham (Abbeville, S.C.) and the Crusaders defense allowed no runs and just two hits in the remaining six innings.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross outhit the Leopards 8-4.
  • Both teams left five runners on base in the game.
  • Durham earned the win after allowing one run on four hits through 27 batters faced in seven innings.
  • Stacy Gordon took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits through five innings pitched.
  • Brewster led the Crusaders’ offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Mullen also had a productive offensive game, batting 2-for-3 and scoring a run.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Durham improves to 5-9 on the season, and earned the 15th win of her career. She now has 12 complete games pitched this season, and 38 in her career, which are the fifth most by a Crusader in team history.

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders return to action on Sunday as they wrap up their three-game series against Lafayette with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. The games were rescheduled from Saturday due to the expected inclement weather.
