Softball Falls Twice To Army West Point At Freshman Field

GAME ONE

Score:

Location: Worcester, Mass. (Freshman Field)
The Lead: Sophomore Taylor Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.) went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI as the Crusaders fell to Army West Point by a score of 7-1 in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Black Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI single up the middle.
  • Army hit an offensive stride in the third, tallying five runs on six hits to put them up 6-0.
  • After the Black Knights added another run in the sixth, the Crusaders responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. After freshman Taylor Wahler (Inman, S.C.) walked, Moss hit a strong double down the right field line to bring home the run.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Army outhit the Crusaders 10-4.
  • Both teams left seven runners on base.
  • Sophomore Katy Watson (Bexley, Ohio) took the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings pitched.
  • Caroline Smith earned the win for Army, allowing one run on four hits through six innings.

GAME TWO

Location: Worcester, Mass. (Freshman Field)
The Lead: The Crusaders suffered a 4-0 loss to Army West Point in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader at Freshman Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After senior pitcher Gennifer Durham (Abbeville, S.C.) and the Crusaders’ defense held Army scoreless through the first three innings, the Black Knights opened up the scoring with three runs in the fourth.
  • Army made it 4-0 in its favor with a run in the sixth inning.
  • The Crusaders got two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. As sophomore Gabby Muniz (Rockport, Mass.) reached on an infield single, sophomore Mandy McCarthy (Pearl River, N.Y.) was thrown out at home to end the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Army outhit the Crusaders 11-3.
  • The Black Knights left eight runners on base, while Holy Cross left four.
  • Durham took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits through 3.2 innings pitched.
  • Renee Poirier earned the win after allowing no runs on three hits through seven innings.

  • The Crusaders are back in action tomorrow, as they conclude their three-game series with Army West Point at Freshman Field beginning at 12:05 p.m.
