The Holy Cross baseball team is preparing to close out its regular season with a single game against Connecticut on Wednesday, and a four-game Patriot League series against Lafayette this weekend at Hanover Insurance Park.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS:
- Holy Cross enters this week's games with a 22-22 overall record and an 11-5 mark in Patriot League play, having most recently swept Bucknell on the road this past weekend. To read the recaps from the Bucknell series, click here: (Saturday | Sunday).
- With the four conference victories at Bucknell, Holy Cross clinched at least the number two seed in the Patriot League Tournament, guaranteeing home field for the semi-final round. They are just one game behind first-place Navy (12-4) heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
- Junior outfielder Bill Schlich (Massapequa, N.Y.) leads the Crusaders with a .286 batting average on the season. He has scored 21 runs and registered 21 RBI, and leads the team with 14 extra-base hits (12 doubles, two triples).
- Junior first baseman Anthony Critelli (Holmdel, N.J.) leads the Crusaders with 31 RBI on the season and has notched a team-leading nine home runs, which is the third-most in school history.
- Junior pitcher Brendan King (Brookline, Mass.) is 5-2 for the season, holding an ERA of 3.39 through 58.1 innings pitched. He leads the Crusaders with 53 strikeouts on the year.
- Senior pitcher Sean Gustin (Stoneham, Mass.) was one of 30 candidates selected for the 2016 Baseball Senior CLASS Award. To read the release, click here.

CAPEN NAMED CRUSADER OF THE WEEK:
- Junior pitcher George Capen (Gainesville, Va.) was named the GoHolyCross.com Crusader of the Week on Monday.

- Freshman outfielder Travis Cloney (Wall, N.J.) was named the Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES:
- UConn is 21-18 on the season with a 6-5 record in The American Conference. They most recently went 1-2 in a weekend series at East Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
- Willy Yahn leads the Huskies with a .314 batting average on the season. He has notched 22 RBI with 29 runs scored and leads the team with 14 extra-base hits (12 doubles, two triples).
- Tim Cate stands as one of the top pitchers for UConn, holding a record of 2-1 while posting a 1.70 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched. He is second on the team with 64 strikeouts on the season.
- The Huskies went 35-25 overall last season with an 11-13 mark in conference action. They were eliminated in The American Baseball Championship with losses to Tulane and East Carolina.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS:
- Lafayette is currently 13-26 on the season with a 6-10 record in Patriot League play. They most recently went 0-4 in a weekend series at Lehigh on Saturday and Sunday, and currently sit fifth in the conference standings.
- Michael Coniglio is batting .335 on the season, while leading the Leopards with 34 runs scored and notching 18 RBI. He also leads the team with 24 stolen bases on 25 attempts.
- David Bednar is one of the top pitchers on Lafayette this season, holding a record of 3-4 with a 4.02 ERA through 53.2 innings pitched. He leads the team with 60 strikeouts on the year.
- Lafayette finished its 2015 season with a 14-27-1 record with a 9-11 mark in conference play. They were eliminated in the semi-final round of the 2015 Patriot League Tournament in three games by Navy.
