Volleyball Earns 3-0 Victory Over N.C. Central

The Lead: Freshman Lizzie Webb led the Crusaders with 29 assists, three service aces and tied for the team lead with 12 digs as the Holy Cross volleyball team tallied a 3-0 win over North Carolina Central at the James Madison Invitational at Sinclair Gymnasium.


  • Senior co-captain Mandy Sifferlen led the Crusaders with 17 kills (.229 hitting percentage) and added 10 digs to the victory.
  • Junior co-captain M.C. Magner additionally registered 12 digs to tie for the team lead.
  • Sophomore Lynsey Petersen and junior Mary Mullen each recorded four blocks to lead the Crusaders.    
  • The Lady Eagles were led by Kelsey Murphy, who posted seven kills, while Bree Simmons tallied 21 digs.


  • Webb recorded her first career double-double.
  • Sifferlen now has 21 double-doubles in her career.
  • At 1-1, the Crusaders are off to their best start since 2011.


  • Down by four points in the first set, the Crusaders notched 13 of the next 18 points take a 23-18 lead. Petersen contributed four points during this span. After winning a point off a Lady Eagles’ service error, sophomore Jenna Price tallied the final kill for the Crusaders, as Holy Cross took the first set, 25-20.
  • North Carolina Central won the first eight of 12 points to lead by four in the second set. The Crusaders then rallied for the next nine of 11 points, including a six-point streak, where Sifferlen racked up three straight kills to take a 13-10 lead. The Crusaders continued to win the following 12 of 20 points with Sifferlen claiming the final kill, as Holy Cross won the second set, 25-18.
  • The Crusaders started off the third set strong, notching the first 17 of 26 points before the Lady Eagles trimmed the deficit to two points (17-15). North Carolina Central would get no closer, as the Crusaders went on to tally eight of the remaining 13 points with Price securing the final kill of the set to secure the 3-0 win.


  • Holy Cross will conclude their action in the JMU Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 27 versus the tournament host, James Madison at 1:30 p.m.
