Worcester Country Club Selected As Home Course For Men?s And Women?s Golf

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester Country Club has officially been named the home course for the Holy Cross men's and women's golf programs. The teams will begin use of the facility during the upcoming fall season.

“Worcester Country Club is proud of our golf course designed by one of golf's premier architects, Donald Ross,” said general manager Bill Shaw. “We have been honored to be the home of many past major tournaments, and we are just as proud to be home to the men's and women's golf teams for the College of the Holy Cross this fall.”

Originally founded in 1900, the Worcester Country Club had its course designed to stretch over 6,650 yards and play to a par of 70. The course was opened in 1914, with the first drive being taken by former United States President William Howard Taft.

“The addition of the Worcester Country Club as our new home course will be a tremendous asset to the golf program at Holy Cross,” said head men's golf coach Bob Molt. “The club's storied past and national reputation will greatly enhance the recruiting of top golfers to the College. The use of their top-notch facilities will also serve as a wonderful asset to develop our current Crusaders.”

The Worcester Country Club has served as the host site for the 1925 Men's U.S. Open and the 1960 Women's U.S. Open. The course is also known for hosting the inaugural Ryder Cup in 1927.

“We are very excited to call the Worcester Country Club our home course,” said head women's golf coach Tim Bibaud. “They have a terrific and challenging venue, which will allow our student-athletes to continue developing their skills. This is a great opportunity for the team to train at an exceptional facility.”

The men's and women's golf teams will hold team practices at the Worcester Country Club.
