HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Leading the second set by one point, Holy Cross used a 9-4 run to extend out to a 15-10 lead. Sifferlen had three kills during this span. The Bears then scored nine of the next four points to tie the match at 19-19. However, the Crusaders never lost the lead, winning six points, while the Bears won four, as Holy Cross won the second set, 25-23.
  • Down by five in the third set with the score, 15-10, the Crusaders had an 9-4 spurt to cut Brown’s lead to tie the match, 19-19. Holy Cross scored just two more times, as the Bears scored the rest to take set three, 25-21, moving ahead 2-1 in the set.
  • The fourth set remained within a two-point margin with the match tied 17-17. Holy Cross took three straight points to lead 20-17. The Crusaders rallied for five of the final nine points for the 25-21 set four win, bringing the match to the deciding fifth set.
  • Brown had a 5-1 lead to start the fifth set before Holy Cross tied it up at 5-5 with sophomore Lynsey Petersen recording two service aces during this time. The Crusaders went on a 6-1 surge to take the lead with the score, 11-7. The Crusaders refused to look back from there, winning five of the last seven points, as Sifferlen hit the final kill with the Crusaders taking set five, 15-10.
