HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After the Mountain Hawks jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start the first set, the Crusaders battled back for a 6-3 spurt to close the gap to two points with the score, 11-9. Lehigh then pushed ahead to a six-point advantage before Holy Cross tallied the following seven of 10 points, fueled by Junior middle hitter Mary Mullen with two kills in that span to keep the Crusaders within two and making the score 18-16. Holy Cross would get no closer than two, though, as Lehigh won the final seven of 13 points to take the first set, 25-22. Lehigh amounted a .381 team hitting percentage during the first frame.
  • The Mountain Hawks led 7-3 early on in the second set before the Crusaders took the next six of eight points to tie the set at 9-9. Lehigh responded with the following four points to regain a 13-9 lead, as Holy Cross rallied with a 7-2 run to take its first lead of the night with the score, 16-15. Lehigh won the next two points, as the set remained within a one-point margin with multiple lead exchanges up until the score was 19-19. The Mountain Hawks then took four straight points to move out to a 23-19 advantage. The Crusaders got within two but couldn’t get the edge, as Lehigh found the final pair of points to win set two, 25-21, entering the locker room with a 2-0 match lead at the break.
  • Both sides entered the third set strong, as Lehigh led the way with the score 7-6. Tied 8-8, the Mountain Hawks used a 6-1 surge to push ahead to a 14-9 advantage. Trailing 22-14, the Crusaders fought back, notching six consecutive points to trim the deficit to two points (22-20) with Magner carrying the momentum for Holy Cross at the service line with two service aces during the run. Holy Cross would score just one more time, as Lehigh won set three, 25-21 for the 3-0 match victory.
