Women's Track And Field Begins 2016-2017 Season At Boston University Season Opener

The Lead: Five different Crusaders qualified for the New England Indoor Championship in the Holy Cross women’s indoor track and field season opener at Boston University on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Isabella DiMare posted New England Championship qualifying times for both the 200-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles. First in the 60-meter hurdles, she tied for fourth in her heat with a team-best time of 9.04. Next in the 200-meter dash, she recorded a team-best time of 25.44 to finish first in her section and qualify her for the New England Championship. Freshman Morgan Sanders captured a time of 9.21 in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 16th overall in the race and qualifying her for the New England Championship. 
  • Next, senior co-captain Jennifer Kimball took sixth place out of 19 in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters.
  • Junior Meghan Dietter also posted a New England Championship qualifying time in the 500-meter run with a 1:17.39 mark, good for a second place finish in her section.
  • In the pole vault, junior Jamison Briggs leaped for a New England Qualifying height of 3.50 meters, just missing her personal record of 3.60 meters.
  • With a distance of 11.35 meters, senior co-captain Alexa Eldracher finished second overall in the triple jump and qualified for the New England Championship, as sophomore Alexandra Curtin placed third overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.39 meters. Junior Alanna Hitscherich finished fifth in the long jump, logging a distance of 5.33 meters.
  • Senior Alliyah Veilleux reached a personal record in the weight throw with a 13.51 meter toss.
  • Freshman Allie Smiley and sophomore Sarah Friess each ran well in the 60-meter dash with times of 7.63 and 7.65, respectively. They both just missed qualifying for the New England Championship

  • The Crusaders return to action on December 9, when Holy Cross travels to Kingston, R.I. for the Rhode Island Pentathlon.
