Sam Girard Named NEHC Player Of The Week
WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Sam Girard has been named NEHC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. This marks the second time this season Girard has received this accolade and the third overall weekly league award she’s earned, having been named NEHC Rookie of the Week last season.
Girard led the Crusaders to their fifth-straight Rutland Herald Invitational championship over the weekend, recording five points in two games and earning the tournament’s MVP award. Girard first tallied two points on one goal and one assist, including the game-winner, as Holy Cross edged SUNY Canton, 3-2, in the RHI’s opening round on Jan. 7.
Then in the championship game on Jan. 8, Girard netted two goals and had one assist in a 4-0 win over Endicott, who entered the contest undefeated with a 12-0-1 record. Girard ranks first in the NEHC in goals with 11 and adds seven assists for 18 points, which is tied for fourth in the conference.
The Crusaders return to the ice this weekend with two games. First Holy Cross will head back to Spartan Arena in Rutland, Vt. to take on Castleton in a night game on Friday, Jan. 13. The Crusaders will then return to the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex the following day to host St. Michael’s at 2:05 p.m.
