  • The Lead: Freshman forward Lauren Manis led the Crusaders with 25 points, but Holy Cross took a 73-71 loss to Navy on Saturday afternoon in Worcester.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Manis led Holy Cross with 25 points and tied for the team-lead with seven rebounds.
  • Junior guard Tricia Byrne registered 17 points and tallied six assists.
  • Also scoring in double figures was junior guard Infiniti Thomas-Waheed with 12 points.
  • Molly Sanders led Navy with 17 points and notched six rebounds with four assists.
  • Justice Swett posted 11 points for the Midshipmen, shooting 5-for-7 from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a back-and-forth start to the game, Navy jumped out to a 14-9 lead at the five minute mark of the first.
  • The Midshipmen maintained their lead and took a 28-19 advantage into the second quarter.
  • Holy Cross cut the deficit to three points midway through the second quarter, making it 32-29.
  • At the half, Navy held a 47-39 lead over the Crusaders.
  • The Crusaders outscored the Midshipmen 19-15 in the third quarter to make it a four-point game heading into the fourth.
  • Holy Cross tied the game with 3:54 remaining with a layup from freshman center Megan Swords, but could not regain the lead in the final minutes of play, as Navy held on for the narrow win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Manis’ 25 points are a new career-high. This was the 17th time she has scored in double-digits this season.
  • Byrne registered a new career-high with 17 points, and notched the 400th point of her career.
  • Junior guard Katie Doherty scored her 600th career point in the contest.

  • Holy Cross will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1, as the Crusaders travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to take on Colgate at 7:00 p.m.
