Women's Swimming And Diving Falls To Bryant

The Lead: Returning to Worcester for a dual meet against Bryant for the Crusaders’ senior day meet on Saturday, the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team suffered a 224-74 loss to the Bulldogs.

SENIOR DAY:

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross started off the meet with a second place finish in the 400 medley relay, posting a time of 4:09.12, just 1.60 seconds off from the first-place spot. The relay squad included freshman Kayleigh Hoagland, sophomore Caroline Body, junior Maura Mullaney and junior Katie Conners.
  • Hoagland notched a time of 1:02.44 in the 100 backstroke for second place before later taking third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.37. Sophomore Jenny O'Brien placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:13.96).
  • Mullaney swam for second place in the 200 butterfly with a 2:13.51 mark.
  • Conners led Holy Cross in the 50 freestyle with a second-place time of 25.49, right behind Bryant’s Jillian Rice (25.18).
  • Freshman Leah Zogby took third place in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:01.71, missing her personal record by 0.22 seconds.
  • With a time of 1:11.96, Body placed third in the 100 breaststroke for the Crusaders and took another third-place spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:39.03) later on in the meet.
  • For diving, sophomore Casey Sherman finished third in the three-meter (229.42), then dove for third again in the one-meter dive with a 242.84 mark.
  • Junior Nina Sparre swam strong in the 200 IM, registering a time of 2:18.06 for second place.
  • Holy Cross ended the meet with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Hoagland, freshman Sarah Underhill, sophomore Emma Gurchiek and Conners swam for a time of 1:43.28.
  • Rice led Bryant with three first-place finishes in her individual events.

UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Friday, Feb. 3 when the Crusaders host Springfield at 6:00 p.m. for the team’s final dual meet of the season.
