Women’s Basketball Earns 63-51 Victory Over Bucknell

  • The Lead: Junior guard Infiniti Thomas-Waheed led the Crusaders with 26 points, as Holy Cross defeated Bucknell by a score of 63-51 on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Thomas-Waheed shot 9-for-17 from the field and 2-for-3 from behind the arc to lead the Crusaders with 26 points.
  • Junior guard Tricia Byrne also posted double figures for Holy Cross with 14.
  • The Crusaders were perfect from the free throw line, shooting 12-for-12.
  • Sune Swart led Bucknell with 13 points, shooting 5-for-9 from the field.
  • Kaitlyn Slagus shot 5-for-8 to post 12 points for the Bison.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Holy Cross got off to a strong start, notching the first three baskets of the game to go up 7-0 before Bucknell used its first timeout just over a minute into the game.
  • Bucknell would get within one point, but the Crusaders outscored the Bison 18-14 in the first quarter.
  • After Holy Cross jumped out to an 11 point lead, Bucknell responded with 18 points in the second quarter to tie the game up at 32 heading into halftime.
  • Both teams battled back and forth throughout the third quarter before the game was tied for the sixth time before heading into the fourth.
  • Holy Cross put together a 13-2 run in the fourth quarter to regain control of the game.
  • The Crusaders would outscore the Bison 17-5 in the final quarter to secure the 63-51 victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Holy Cross is now 44-18 all-time against Bucknell, and 27-6 against the Bison in games played in Worcester.
  • Thomas-Waheed registered a new career-high with 26 points in the win. This was her 40th career game scoring in double digits, and 6th career game with 20 or more points.
  • Byrne tied her career-high in assists with seven.
  • Junior guard Katie Doherty tied her career-high for rebounds with 8.
  • The Crusaders went perfect from the free throw line for the first time since Jan. 2, 2016, when they shot 6-for-6 against Navy.

UP NEXT

  • Holy Cross will return to action this Wednesday, Feb. 8, as the Crusaders host Lafayette in Worcester at 7:05 p.m.
