The Lead: Holy Cross fell to Auburn by a score of 7-0 on Friday afternoon in its first of three games against the Tigers this weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Alex Gionis registered the only hit for the Crusaders in the second at-bat of the game with a double to right center.
- Auburn posted four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning, as four players picked up RBIs.
- Following the first inning, senior Phil Reese pitched four scoreless innings before sophomore Pat McGowan came in to pitch in relief in the sixth inning.
- The Tigers added another run in the sixth inning, scoring on a wild pitch, before posting two runs on three hits in the bottom of the eighth inning.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Auburn outhit the Crusaders 12-1.
- The Tigers left five runners on base, while Holy Cross left three.
- Reese took the loss for the Crusaders, allowing four runs on seven hits.
- Keegan Thompson earned the win for Auburn, throwing eight scoreless innings while allowing one hit.
