(Riverside Sports Complex) The Lead: The Holy Cross baseball team fell to UC Riverside by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in the second of four games with the Highlanders.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Holy Cross got off to a strong start, registering two runs in the first inning. Senior Josh Hasselland freshman Austin Maselboth got on base with walks, as senior Anthony Critellibrought home both runs with a double to left field after a successful sacrifice bunt from junior Cam O'Neill.
After senior Brendan Kingpitched three scoreless innings, the Highlanders responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth off a two-run homer to tie the game.
UC Riverside took the 5-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth, as they scored three runs on three hits to put them up by three.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Highlanders outhit Holy Cross 5-3.
The Crusaders left five runners on base, while UC Riverside left two.
King took the loss for Holy Cross, allowing five runs through 6.2 innings pitched while tossing five strikeouts.
Hazahel Quijada earned the win for the Highlanders, allowing two runs through five innings pitched.
Critelli led the Crusaders’ offense, hitting 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
