Score: Cal State Northridge 10, Holy Cross 5 Pitching Decision: W: Blake Schriever (2-0) | L: Pat McGowan (0-2) Time: 5:00 p.m. Location: Northridge, Calif. (Matador Field) The Lead: The Crusaders fell to Cal State Northridge by a score of 10-5 on Wednesday night at Matador Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Matadors were first to get on the board, as they brought home three runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning.
Holy Cross responded with a run in the third inning, as junior Cam O'Neillhit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home freshman Austin Masel.
Northridge posted five runs over the next two innings to increase its lead and make it 8-1.
The Crusaders added two more runs in the fifth inning, as sophomore Kellen McCormick notched a pair of RBIs with a double to center field, bringing home O’Neill and senior Anthony Critelli.
After the Matadors added a run in the fifth, the Crusaders scored another pair the following inning off RBIs from sophomore Travis Cloneyand junior Thomas Russo.
Northridge added its 10th run in the sixth inning to seal the final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Matadors outhit Holy Cross 15-12.
Both teams left nine runners on base.
McGowan took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits.
Blake Schriever earned the win for Northridge, allowing four runs on five hits in relief.
Critelli led the Holy Cross offense, batting 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Holy Cross is back in action this weekend, as they take on Southern California in three games, beginning this Friday, March 10 at 9:00 p.m. eastern time.
