The Lead: Julianne D’Orazio posted three goals and one assist for four points for the Mountain Hawks as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team fell to Lehigh, 10-3, in the Patriot League season opener for both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Senior Tess MacKay scored the first goal of the game, to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead, with 15:08 left in the first half.
Lehigh responded by scoring four consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead at the half.
The Crusaders started the second half with a goal from senior Mary Patalita with 29:32 left in the half.
Lehigh moved out to a 10-2 lead with six straight goals with 16:47 left in the half.
Junior Kerrianne Moran scored the final goal of the game with 7:26 left in the half, for the 10-3 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Lehigh outshot Holy Cross, 38-17.
Junior captain Julia Maloney made 14 saves for the Crusaders, while Taylor Tvedt posted eight saves.
Senior captain Anna Johnson posted four draw controls for the Crusaders.
Lehigh secured nine draw controls, while Holy Cross had six. Lehigh picked up 18 groundballs, while Holy Cross picked up 14.
The Crusaders went 2-3 on free position shots while the Mountain Hawks went 3-10.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, March 25 when they travel to Annapolis, Md. to face Patriot League opponent Navy.
