The Lead: Four different players scored three goals for the Mids as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team fell to Navy, 17-6, in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After Navy took a 3-0 lead, senior Mary Patalita posted a goal for the Crusaders with 24:18 left in the first half
Navy responded with seven consecutive goals, but sophomore Keely Connors found the back of the net for the Crusaders with just one second remaining as Navy took a 10-2 lead to the half.
The Mids netted five straight goals to start the second half to increase their lead to 15-2 with 18:36 left.
The Crusaders ended Navy’s scoring streak with a goal by sophomore Baker Earl with 16:27 remaining.
After the Mids netted two goals, the Crusaders scored the last three goals of the contest for the 17-6 final. Freshman Bryn Carroll, senior Maddie Ward and sophomore Molly Pfaff each scored for the Crusaders.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Navy outshot Holy Cross, 30-15.
Junior captain Julia Maloneymade seven saves for the Crusaders, while freshman Juliana Kubler posted two. Ingrid Boyum made five saves to earn the win for Navy, while Gab Harchelroad tallied one.
Navy secured 16 draw controls, while the Crusaders posted seven.
The Mids picked up 18 groundballs, while Holy Cross tallied 11.
The Crusaders went 2-2 on free position shots, while the Mids went 1-2.
The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, March 29, when they play at Patriot League opponent Army West Point at 3:00 p.m.
