The Lead: Holy Cross came up short to Yale in its first game against the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in New York, N.Y. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Yale took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the second inning, as the Bulldogs scored with a solo shot home run.
  • Holy Cross responded in the third inning, as freshman Austin Masel hit an RBI single to the shortstop to bring home classmate Chris Rinaldi.
  • The Crusaders took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, as Rinaldi scored while Masel batted into a double play.
  • The Bulldogs regained control of the lead in the bottom of the inning, as they scored three runs on three hits.
  • Senior Josh Hassell brought home another run for the Crusaders in the bottom of the sentence with a sacrifice hit, but Holy Cross was unable to find a tying run.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Crusaders outhit Yale 6-5.
  • Holy Cross left seven runners on base, while the Bulldogs left two.
  • Senior Brendan King took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) through all six inning pitched.
  • Eric Brodkowitz earned the win for Yale, allowing three runs on six hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
  • Rinaldi went 2-for-3 at the plate while leading the Crusaders with a pair of runs scored.

The Lead: The Crusaders took a 4-0 loss in their second game of the day against Yale at Satow Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After senior Phil Reese pitched three scoreless innings, Yale broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, as they scored a runner from third base on an error.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead in the sixth inning, as a runner from third made his way home on a wild pitch.
  • Yale brought home two runners in the eighth inning off a two-RBI double that made it a 4-0 game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Yale outhit the Crusaders 7-3.
  • Both teams left five runners on base.
  • Reese took the loss after allowing two runs (none earned) on four hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
  • Mason Kukowski earned the win for Yale, allowing no runs on two hits.
