Men's Lacrosse Tallies 10-5 Win Versus Lafayette

The Lead: Senior Sean Kirkpatrick posted four goals and one assist, while senior Kevin Lux tallied two goals and three assists for the Crusaders as the Holy Cross men’s lacrosse team defeated Lafayette, 10-5, in Patriot League action. With his five points today, Lux now has 100 career points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Crusaders took an early 2-0 lead as senior Jack Ortlieb scored the first goal of the game with 13:47 remaining in the first quarter and Lux netted another goal at 9:50.
  • After Michael Sands responded for the Leopards when he found the back of the net at 4:48, Kirkpatrick then scored for Holy Cross with just three seconds left in the first quarter.
  • Conor Walters scored for Lafayette at 6:49 left in the second quarter, which cut the Crusader lead to 3-2.
  • Junior Logan LeBlond answered at 5:22 when he found the back of the net for Holy Cross to increase the lead to 4-2.
  • Eric Joseph netted a goal for the Leopards with 2:40 remaining until the half. Kirkpatrick then scored on another last second shot with only two seconds remaining in the quarter. Holy Cross had a 5-3 lead at halftime.
  • Kirkpatrick then buried two more goals increasing the Crusaders’ lead to 7-3.
  • Lafayette answered with two straight goals by Walters and Sands. At 1:44 remaining in the third quarter, the Leopards cut the Crusaders’ lead to 7-5.
  • With three consecutive goals by freshman Connor Waldron, Lux and freshman Sean Mullaney, Holy Cross closed out the game with a 10-5 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Freshman goalkeeper Jonathan Tesoro posted three saves, while Lafayette goalkeeper Matthew Cortese posted 10.
  • Holy Cross totaled 42 shots, while Lafayette took 15.
  • The Crusaders picked up 41 ground balls, while the Leopards tallied 24.
  • Holy Cross won nine face-offs, while Lafayette secured eight.
  • The Crusaders went 1-2 on extra-man opportunities, while the Leopards went 0-4.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Lux now has 100 career points with 62 goals and 38 assists. He is the 23rd Crusader in program history to record 100 points.
  • The Crusaders’ 3-3 conference record is their best start to a Patriot League season in program history.
  • Kirkpatrick now leads the team with 29 points.

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 15, when they host Patriot League opponent Colgate at 12:00 p.m., on Senior Day.

CRUSADERS TO HOLD ANNUAL CLINIC FOR A CAUSE

  • The Crusaders will hold their third annual Clinic for a Cause prior to the home game against Colgate on Saturday, April 15. The clinic will run from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross and is open to youth lacrosse players in grades eight or below. There is a suggested donation of $10 to attend the clinic with all proceeds benefitting the All in All the Time Foundation.
  • The All in All the Time Foundation was established in 2008 as a tribute to the memory of US Navy SEAL Senior Chief Petty Officer Tom Valentine. It provides an immediate response to fill the interim needs of the surviving spouses and children of fallen warriors.
  • Clinic participants will get hands-on training from Holy Cross men’s lacrosse coaches and student-athletes and are also invited to stay for the Crusaders' home game against Colgate at 12:00 p.m. on Senior Day. Registration for the clinic can be found here.
