Men's Track And Field Opens 2017 Season With Two Meets

THE BASICS:

Tiger Track Classic Results: No Final Scores 
Location: Auburn, Ala. (Hutsell-Rosen Track) 
Date: April 7-8, 2017 
The Lead: The Holy Cross men’s track and field team opened its 2017 outdoor season with two meets from April 7-8, competing at the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn and the New Hampshire Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE TIGER TRACK CLASSIC:

  • Sophomore Brandon Thornhill ran for a time of 14.86 in the 110-meter hurdles for an eighth-place finish in the race. Thornhill later ran for a career-best time of 56.16 in the 400-meter hurdles.
  • Right behind Thornhill in the 400-meter hurdles was senior James Donohue (56.41) and freshman Freddie Halloran (56:46).
  • Sophomore Tighe Robinson threw for a new personal record of 54.90 meters in the javelin. Robinson finished eighth out of 20 throwers. Junior Louis Hurtado also hit a personal record of 49.88 meters in the javelin, as he finished 12th overall.
  • Freshman Bobby Tuzzio captured a sixth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:09.42.
  • With a time of 4:08.56, senior co-captain Michael Andre led the Crusaders in the 1,500-meter run.
  • Junior Thomas Kalantzakos took 14th place out of 29 in the 800-meter run for a time of 1:55.86. Kalantzakos just missed his career-best mark in this event by 0.40 seconds.
  • Junior Bryan Gallagher (8:57.10) and sophomore Joseph Prunty (9:04.51) took the 10th and 11th-place spots, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run.

New Hampshire Results: 6th out of 6 Teams (19 pts.) 
Location: Durham, N.H. (Reggie Atkins Track & Field Facility) 
Date: April 8, 2017 

HOW IT HAPPENED AT NEW HAMPSHIRE:

  • Junior Dan McLoughlin finished sixth in the 800-meter run with his time of 2:03.09.
  • Senior co-captain William Raven hit a time of 18.83 in the 110-meter hurdles, which is a team-best mark this season.
  • Junior Josh Nickerson reached his career and season-best height in the high jump with his mark of 1.85 meters. Nickerson also hit a distance of 5.90 meters in the long jump, which is a season-best mark for the team.
  • In the pole vault, senior co-captain Michael Araujo cleared a height of 4.10 meters.
  • In the triple jump, sophomore Sawyer Badey reached a distance of 12.30 meters.
  • UMass Lowell won the meet with 164 points.

 UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders will return to action at the Minuteman Invitational hosted by UMass on April 15.
