The New Hampshire Wildcats defeated Holy Cross in three sets in the second match of the Jack Kaiser Classic.

Holy Cross fought hard during the first set taking UNH into extra points. The Wildcats were able to finish the first set 28-26. The Crusaders started the second set strong opening on a 7-0 run. Freshmen outside hitter Katie Kerins found her fourth kill of the match as the Crusaders took an 8-1 lead. UNH came back to tie the second set 13-13 and later took the lead after an attack error by Holy Cross making the score 19-18. UNH controlled the rest of the second set which finished 25-22.

In the end, the Wildcats won the third set 25-18.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Freshman Kathleen Philo had 15 digs and 11 assists for her first career double-double.

  • Kerins ended the match with seven kills and 14 digs.

  • Freshman middle blocker Clare Honan notched eight kills with a .237 hitting percentage.

  • Junior middle hitter Kristen Somerville tallied five kills with a .250 hitting percentage.
